For those joining on the day one for the workshops, are there any prerequisites for the participants? Anything to prepare on the participant laptops to get the best value of the hands-on part?

No, there are no prerequisites! You will be provided provisioned servers from Digital Ocean with the class material prepared and ready to go! You only need SSH to log into your instance.
